Summer Health Academy - Program Information
The HCOP Summer Health Academy will provide activities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds transferring to UHM to enhance their successful entry into a health degree program and timely completion, increase their understanding of the health care professions, and develop a peer and UH support network. Due to COVID-19, the activities will be virtual this summer.

Summer activities and core components include:
Support activities throughout the subsequent academic year will be provided to ensure a smooth transition to UHM. Academic support will be provided through advising and connection to resources.

- Assessments (career, learning skills, personality type inventory).
- Sessions on common healthcare issues.
- Communication skills (oral and written) and research training.
- Health career resources and mentoring support.
- Cultural awareness activities.
- Ohana (family) orientation for incoming students and their families.

- Academic advising and understanding of degree requirements, extra-curricular activities, and financial aid.
- Peer mentoring, social networking, and leadership development through extracurricular activities.
- Exploration of health careers.
- Service learning projects.
