ABOUT HCOP
Since 1972, the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) has provided grants to educational institutions to create health professions pipeline programs for individuals from economically and/or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds as an extension of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
At the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, the Health Careers Opportunity Program (UHM HCOP) has strived to provide an educational pathway to health careers since 2001. As part of the Office of Student Equity, Excellence, and Diversity (SEED), college students receive academic advising, individualized counseling and other support services as they pursue and complete their health degree programs. |
OUR MISSION & GOAL |
UHM HCOP assists individuals interested in pursuing careers in the health field by providing opportunities to build a professional and community network with college faculty and students, health professionals, and community leaders. These opportunities include volunteering at health events, participating in mentoring/shadowing activities, and taking a leadership role in implementing various projects.
UHM HCOP's mission is to build a diverse health workforce for a healthy community. Our goal is to increase the number of health professionals serving in areas of need in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific. Our program and staff strive to serve students from socially, educationally, or economically disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as those from other underrepresented groups, to develop the skills needed to successfully compete in, enter, and graduate from accredited academic institutions for higher education. |
